IntelliscreenX alone makes jailbreaking iOS 5 worthwhile

Of all the new tweaks coming out for iOS 5, IntelliscreenX is by far the best of them. Apple’s introduction of the Notification Center has revitalized the iPhone aging notification center and provided a way to organize all the various notifications that one receives during the day. However, like most things in life, it can always be a little better.

With this tweak, the iOS 5 Notification Center can be added to the Lockscreen, and you will not only be able to view the Notification Center from the lockscreen on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, but also dramatically extend the functionality of the Notification Center by adding the following features:

  • Collapsible Sections
  • QuickSettings Widget (frequently used functions such as airplane mode and brightness controller)
  • Top Shelf (A configurable bar that appears above notifications)
  • View Full Emails, Calendar, and receive RSS, Facebook and Twitter updates
  • Much more…

IntelliScreenX streamlines the notification experience with many, many new features. For me, the pick of the bunch is the “top shelf” feature, which allows quick access to features such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as if it were a trainee SBSettings.

The above is just the clincher, though, there are numerous minor (yet collectively major)adjustments which render IntelliScreenX a virtual must for any organized techie.

A public beta of this tweak has been released. If you want to check out the public beta for free, then add the following repository to Cydia:

An iOS device jailbroken on iOS 5 is obviously needed for this tweak. You can follow a step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch on iOS 4.3.5 using Redsn0w (or PwnageTool). For jailbreaking iOS 5 tethered using Redsn0w, you can follow a complete step by step guide posted here, or here if you want to use Sn0wbreeze on Windows. Since jailbreak on iOS 5 is currently limited to tethered boot only, you can install ‘SemiTether’ patch (instructions here) from Cydia to make your jailbreak semi-tethered on iOS 5.
