Well, it’s a new month and it’s time for a new roundup of great apps for the jailbroken iPhone. The jailbreak scene continues to grow and talented developers continue to find ways to make the iPhone better and better. The apps below are just a few of the reasons why the iPhone remains the #1 smartphone and why any iPhone owner should strongly consider jailbreaking their device. In this roundup, I’ll be presenting AndroidLoader, MobileNotifier, FREEdi YouTube Downloader, Mess with Words, Remove Background and PDANet
Jailbreak Information
Jailbreak Applications
- AndroidLoader – $2.99 – Ever wanted the to use the Android apps loader on your iOS device? Well now you can, thanks to Surenix, the creator of the newly released Cydia tweak AndroidLoader. This tweak enables you to get access to all your apps with a simple tap or a swipe, Android style. It basically allow you to add applications to a dedicated window that can be invoked by the user any time and best of all it looks like the stock Android app drawer, so you can get your Android fix!
- MobileNotifier– Free – Notifications on iOS are one of the operating system’s weakpoints. Peter Hajas’ MobileNotifier hack finally brings them into the modern era. If you’re like me, you get very tired of having a Twitter or e-mail alert pop up in the middle of what you’re doing and forcing you to respond. Even worse, pulling your iDevice off the nightstand in the morning to be greeted by a stack of alerts which can only be viewed in order, and dismissed one by one. MobileNotifier is an jailbreak hack for the iPhone and iPod Touch that is so good, it should have come from Apple.
- FREEdi YouTube Downloader – Free – This tweak allows you to download YouTube videos as MP4 files. Videos are stored in the Freedi documents folder.
- Mess with Words – $4.99 – Great joke app. This tweak lets you play illegal words in Words with Friends. Now you can play words like “Quijibo”, “Shablagoo” and “Zanxy”! It works with v4.02. No guarantee it will continue to work in future versions.
- Remove Background– Free – Have you ever faced a situation where you had so many background apps running on your iPhone that it slowed down your phone? You’re probably thinking to yourself how silly that question is, because you’ve no doubt experienced that at one time or another. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could just wipe out every backgrounded app that was running on your iPhone? If your iPhone is jailbroken, you can, and quite easily I might add. Remove Background is a jailbreak app coupled with an SBSettings toggle that makes removing pesky background apps a cinch.
- PDANet – Free for limited / $15.95 for full- PDANet is an unofficial tethering application that lets you surf the web with your computer using the phone’s data connection. This newest version, v5.01, adds an option to hide tethering usage (very important as carriers are cracking down on unofficial usage), allows multiple WiFi access points. Recent updates have dramatically improved performance as well as fixed several bugs. This is a great way to get the most out of your data plan, especially for occasional tethering, without having to pay all the extra fees associated with tethering.
Well, that’s it for now! There are always great, new apps popping up in Cydia and the above apps are some of my favorite ones from the past month. These apps are all great reasons to jailbreak the iPhone and much thanks goes out to the Dev Team, Chronic Dev, Comex and Geohot for their continued work in the jailbreak scene. I know these guys are hard at work on the iPad 2 jailbreak so hopefully it won’t be too much longer for the community.
Thanks for reading and happy iPhone-ing!
